"Now I see the secret of the making of the best persons. It is to grow in the open air, and to eat and sleep with the earth."

![]() It all started with a hike across the Wind River Mountains in 1997. Five years later, Margo Clark and Clay Fulcher moved from Arkansas to the Upper Wind River Valley and continued their love affair with hiking, wildlife watching, and the Wind River Mountain Range. Wind River Gear was a natural offshoot of this passion. Wind River Gear is located in an old log building in downtown Dubois and has been host to a number of activities through the years. The old maple floor attests to it once being a roller skating rink, and local residents claim to have watched 15 cent movies here. A senior center, dance hall, VFW post, and school lunchroom have all called what is now Wind River Gear home. Since that time, the structure has undergone extensive renovations, both inside and out. Locally grown and sawn lodgepole pine was used to craft all the furnishings in the store: clothes racks, book shelves, topo cabinet, tent platforms, and the check-out counter. The result is a warm, woody and welcoming environment. Come and see for yourself!
